To prepare laminate flooring, the previous type of flooring needs to be removed and cleaned. There should not be any traces of gum or previously used carpet outlining the floor. Once the cleaning is over, the vacuuming of the floor is done. Checking for the unevenness of the floor is essential and the floor needs to be leveled. Bottoms of door jams and can openings are removed by using a copying saw. Once that's done a self leveling compound may be skimmed on it!

In order to know how much laminate is required, the square foot of the room is found out simply by calculating and multiplying the dimensions of the room.

To install the laminate flooring a base is required and this is provided by the underlying pad. The laminates are then installed just above the underlying pad. The joints and shapes of the laminates depend upon the company of the laminates, the joints simply snap together and they are to be snaggered. Remember laminate flooring is held against each other rather than holding against the floor so a ¼ inch clearance is left while nearing the wall. The spacers are to be used when flooring is first done near the wall, such that baseboards can be installed later.

The doorways are different altogether, using a kitchen knife the connections to the adjoining are cut and the laminates on the sides can be stuck using wood glue.

Once the flooring is complete the baseboards are removed, miter and caulk all the joints. The planks should not be nailed since it's a floating floor. If some planks are cut too short and the baseboard does not cover adequately, then the quarter round floor line needs to be installed.

Once done take a good look at the flooring and admire its beauty!
