Step 1

The floor  should  fist of all  be run at right angles leaving a space of about an inch to half an inch, this is  to allow room for expansion during weather changes as hardwood is affected by change of weather. Here make sure that the course is in straight alignment.

You should also make sure that you remove all the dust by sweeping and anything else that may be lying on the floor. Before starting on how to lay hardwood

Step 2

Near the corner at the wall, where you start your laying of the hardwood, place a mark of about an inch with a of the floor width with dimensions of 2.25 per 3 inches and 4.75 per every 4 inches.

Step 3

Put a similar mark with the same measurements at the opposite and place a mark connecting the two marks. To keep out dust, and the movement of moisture, cover the floor with a good boulders' felt paper of about 15-1b at the wall edges.

Step 4

Using screw-shank or galvanized 8d or 6d flooring nails, nail the strip as you lay out from the wall

Step 5

Nail the straight at the strips and make sure that you position the nails over supporting floor joists, making sure that you nail near the end of the strips so that they are stable from the end. If you can drill the nail holes before placing on the floor it is advisable so that you avoid them splitting.

Make sure that the marking end is in line with the starting strip.

Step 7

Using a nail set so as to give a blind nail starting on the first to the third strips, then the rest of the strips from the fourth can be nailed using power floor mailer.

Step 8

With a staggered pattern lay about seven to nine floor strips with a distance of seven inches at the end joints. Make sure that the pattern is evenly distributed with long and short strip pieces so as to avoid clusters.

Step 9

To ensure that the layout is as you wished it to be, it is at this point that you dry fit the strip, and if it is then sanding is the next step so as to give a clear personalized finishing.

The procedures on how to lay hardwood are simple though it can be a very involving task.
